Prayer and Discussion – Monthly Meeting in the Reading Room – The Pastor – Thursday 20th February 12.30pm

The Reading Room is conducting a series of prayer focus meetings about Church.  The discussion topics will be drawn from The Manual of The Mother Church.  Come and join us!

Meeting: Thursday 20th February 2020 12.30 to 1.30pm

Where:  Reading Room, 128 Gawler Place

This Month’s Focus:

The Christian Science Pastor

Have you ever thought more deeply about what role a Pastor plays in a church?

Mrs Eddy ordained The Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures as the Pastor of our church.

  • How do we relate to the books as our Pastor?
  • Can we get closer to our books by considering them as our Pastor?
  • Or are they just the books we use and the fact that they are Pastor has no real importance?

We will also take some time to consider what a sermon is – and see if we can get a more spiritual view of our Sunday Sermon preached by our Pastor.

As usual, there are a lot of research points available for you to start your in depth study – what is a Pastor?  What is a sermon?  How do we view these from our unique spiritual perspective as Christian Scientists?  Could a deeper consideration of these questions give impulse to the benefits we receive each week from attending Church?

There is a quiet, supportive atmosphere in the Reading Room for you to delve more deeply into this question using all the available resources – JSH Online, Concord, Biographies and other available literature .  Everyone is welcome!  (We are open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday.)

At our meeting, we will spend some time sharing what we have each discovered about the the questions surrounding The Pastor.  The meeting will cover:

  • discussion of the relevant Manual provisions relating to the Pastor;
  • discussion of any Journal/Sentinel/Monitor articles – or any writings of Mrs Eddy etc which you may have  found to broaden our consideration of the issues of the Pastor;

So come and spend some time in your Reading Room in February – and do some research – who knows what you may uncover.  Some preparatory work is encouraged. You will get more out of the discussion if you have done some research – but everyone is welcome to come – even just to listen.

Bring your lunch, your research, a willingness to share and your prayerful thought.  If you would like to attend the meeting via phone, please contact the Reading Room up to the day before the meeting to advise of your intention.  The meeting will last for approximately one hour.

If you have any questions, ring the Reading Room on 8223 3230.
