Hi everyone
We have finished reading our first book – 12 Years with Mary Baker Eddy by Irving Tomlinson.
Our new book is The Life of Mary Baker Eddy by Sibyl Wilbur. Â We have read only the first couple of chapters and are finding some interesting contrasts with the first book. Â Mr Tomlinson was a Christian Scientist and a major theme of his book was Mrs Eddy’s love – love for God, love for the world and love for mankind – and how she was impelled at all times only by Love.
Ms Wilbur at the time of writing her book which was first published in 1907, was a journalist – and not a Christian Scientist. Â Her book was published in chapters over time in the local newspaper and is peppered with researched facts. This was the only biography of Mrs Eddy published with her consent during her lifetime.
We have changed the meeting time for our Book Club – it is still on Tuesday afternoons but now starts at 2.30pm. Â We usually read together for an hour or so. Â Everyone is welcome to join. Â If you don’t have a copy of the book, you can listen to it being read aloud. Â Copies are available for purchase in the Reading Room at $35.95.
